I bought a Meyers style dune buggy last summer on a 65 chassis, that has an old 356 motor in it.  The number on the side of the Transaxle is:
      35
113.301.103

Is this a VW Transaxle?  And if so, what year?
I could not find any sites where I could validate this number.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Joe

It is a VW trans but sounds a lot earlier than an IRS,it's probably the original swingaxle that matches the "on a 65 chassis" Wink .

Joe Smiley ,please read all the way through this:
http://www.chircoestore.com/catalog/smf/index.php?topic=3935.0
including the link to the samba I posted up Wink ,there is another set of #'s stamped into the main case beside the case casting # that can be pecked apart once you find it.

Yes, it looks very much like the pictures.  The second number is in the exact same location (now that I know where to look).

The number on mine is 7330933 (although the 9 is very faint and hard to tell for sure).
