so i have a 69 bug and want it to be more safe so i have decided i want to install a roll cage.  im confused on how they work though.  does the 4 point roll cage only go from the back by the engine to the center behind the front seats?  if that is so, wouldn't it be more safe to put in a 6 point roll cage so those in the front are also protected?  also, when these are installed, do they need to be bolted and welded?  thank you very much

a 6 point is the best to use.

you can bolt them through with the mounting brackets. weld any joints. be sure to use grade 8 bolts, grade 8 washers, and nylon sleeved lock nuts on the mounting plates. (the cage ends have stucds, I would bolt the mounting plates together seperately). still use the brade 8 and nylox nuts on the cage studs.

if ya get technical then tie in a front bumper/ cage to the 6 point and pass it through the fire wall. use a shock mount rear engine cage - mucho bueno.

you can tie all 3 sections together too.

chircos 6 point is a complete bolt on.  bolts to floor pan and by firewall. the center hoop has sleeves so the front hoop and rear sections slide in, drill couple holes your done.  although it looks better welded, i cut the sleeves off, notched and welded.
